Drivers licenses and ID Scanning

Drivers licenses and ID Scanning

Many people know that ID Scanning uses driver’s licenses. That is the key document we use for ID Scanning. But many don’t know the history of driver’s licenses.

The history of driver’s licenses can be traced back to the early 20th century, when motor vehicles first became widespread. At that time, many countries began to require drivers to obtain a license in order to operate a motor vehicle on public roads.

In the United States, the first driver’s licenses were issued in the 1910s, after the establishment of the first state motor vehicle departments. Initially, these licenses were not mandatory and were simply issued as a way for states to keep track of who was operating motor vehicles on their roads. It was not until the 1930s that all states began to require drivers to obtain a license before operating a motor vehicle.

In the late 70’s / early 80’s magnetic stripes were used to create a machine-readable zone for driver’s license. This started to evolve the use of ID scanners to determine age. This have evolved over the years to 2D barcode we use for ID scanning today
